BRIDGE and DOOR

venice | 24.07.09

Gaze in a narrow street in Venice...
In my mind I made a connection between the picture and the concept of collaboration...
the association with bridges came quickly.

...[T]he uninterrupted transformations of materials as well as energies brings everything into relationship with everything else and make one cosmos out of all the individual elements...however, the objects remain banished in the merciless separation of space; no particle matter can share its space with another and a real unity of the diverse does not exist in spatial terms.
...

In the immediate as well as in the symbolic sense, in the physical as well as in the intellectual sense, we are at any moment those who separate the connected or connect the separate.

53. VENICE BIENNALE

I visited the exhibition Making Worlds at the Venice Biennale, I found some interesting and inspiring works, here a selection of them.

1.
I really like the idea of corrupting reality, what is in front of us is it real?
When you look at yourself in a mirror, lets say you walk by a shop window you aspect to see the exact replica of yourself...what if not?

2.
Tomas Saraceno | Galaxies Forming ALong Filaments, Like Droplets Along the Strands of a Spider
2008, elastic rope, installation dimensions variable

...[I]n this new installation Saraceno takes the spider’s web as a starting point. Investigating how the gossamer thin filaments of these intricate webs are able to suspend life by way of intricate geometry, Saraceno suggests at a conceptual architectural proposal that relies on this most delicate and prehistoric system of life to take us into our future. Of particular interest is the application of this phenomenon throughout the history of time. A keystone to Saraceno’s fascination with these web constructions was the recent discovery that suggests the early universe was a sponge-like form, with galaxies forming along filaments, like droplets on a spider's web.

It was interesting to see how the audience was "forced" to interact with the installation.
The artist brings Felix Guattari’s “ecosophy” into his practice.

3.
Human Beings are curious...The box was placed in the middle of the room, the audience was invited to listen to the sound inside the box...I believe there was no sound in it...but around the object people started to discuss and share ideas and opinions.

4.
Making the audience aware of what is usually hidden.
The film rotate on a structure that placed in the middle of the room, became more important of the movie itself.

5.
Hans-Peter Feldmann | Shadow Play

Feldmann, known for collecting the ordinary and infusing it with a sense of wonder, presents Shadow Play, a primitive yet wondrous installation. Toy figures and bjects piled on slowly rotating platforms and lit with bright lights cast dancing shadows on the bare walls in a manner akin to shadow puppetry or magic lanterns.

6.
Chu Yun | Constellation

Chu Yun recognizes that the meaning of art often resides in interstitial spaces between maker, object and audience. His ongoing work constellation consists of various household electrical appliances divorced from their usual function and installed in a dark room. Their flashing indicator lights comprise a small universe.

This was one of my favourite...In my opinion the electrical devices should had been better covered to create mistery.

7.

Optical illusions. Playing with lights and double-sided mirrors

8.
Bertozzi&Casoni | Polychrome Ceramic, Painted Bronze

The Language of everyday life

9.
Lygia Pape |
Gold thread in square forms

This is my favourite one. Beams of light are made of gold thread. It was really well made and the installation fitted with the environment.
